About Us

Civic Forum Games was founded by Greg Forster. He’s a longtime board game geek who’s also a politics geek, a history geek and an American presidency geek. He has a Ph.D. in political science from Yale University (class of 2002); in grad school he was a TA in Yale’s course on the American presidency under legendary scholar of the executive branch Stephen Skowronek. Even back then, he was dreaming of one day making a game about the American presidency.

Civic Forum Games

Civic Forum Games takes its inspiration from the amazing true story of Czechoslovakia’s nonviolent Velvet Revolution. Over 100,000 opponents of the totalitarian regime peacefully occupied Wenceslas Square in Prague in November/December 1989, and refused to leave the square even when directly threatened with a massacre. Unable to govern when its citizens chose to “live in the truth” no matter what the cost, the regime collapsed with breathtaking speed. You can read the whole epic story here.

Civic Forum was the umbrella group that brought together all people who opposed the regime during the crisis. The Civic Forum Games logo is a reimagining of the lapel pin worn by supporters of Civic Forum during their confrontation with the regime.
